VDx® PRRSV Gene Diagnosis PRRSV
PRRS (Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome) is a disease caused by the infection of the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). It causes late-term abortion in sows and respiratory problems in piglets and growing pigs.
PRRSV is a virus that grows well in the alveolar macrophage. It is stable at pH 6.5-7.5 and in an aerosol at low temperatures, but dies at 20°C in 24 hours. It is known that infection occurs mainly through contact with other infected swine, contaminated shoes and clothing, and animal breeding equipment such as needles used in artificial insemination.
VDx® PRRSV RT-PCR is a genetic test reagent which evaluates the presence or absence of PRRSV in samples suspected to be infected. Detection of virus by using this reagent is beneficial due to its high sensitivity and convenience by one step procedure for RT-PCR. It can be immediately used to test the extracted RNA without any additional preparation of reagent. Premix is provided for each test in a dry environment. Different sizes of Control DNA are offered to be used for validation so that the reliability of the test can be assured.
When the amount of virus is small due to the characteristics of sample tests, nested PCR with superior sensitivity can be used to confirm and the test can be conducted by separating the two (NA/EU) genotypes of PRRSV on purpose. In addition, a test can be conducted to discriminate the Chinese type of high pathogen PRRSV.
